Blurb: When Blizzek is conscripted to fight in the war against the humans, he assumes he’ll end up dead—that’s the only possible outcome for a stubborn, arrogant orc like him. But when he’s gravely injured in a battle, it’s a human woman with gentle, brown eyes who saves his life.

Nera inherited her skills as a healer from her father, who always taught her to care for the sick, no matter who they were. When she finds an orc out in the woods, well, she has a duty to help him. But is it more than just duty that convinces her to bring him home with her and nurse him back to health, too?

While kind Nera cares for him day after day, Blizzek finds an unspoken desire slowly blooming between them. But their people are at war, and Blizzek must return to the front lines, or die as a deserter—which would mean leaving Nera forever.

Review: Healing the Orc’s Heart is a true enemies-to-lovers – humans and orcs are at war, though the cannon fodder that is Blizzek and Nera don’t really understand why. All they know is the other kind has killed their own.

That said, Nera is a sweetheart (maybe a little too much?) She takes on Blizzek without hesitation – or understanding his language. This barrier makes the story extra interesting and I felt the frustrations of both characters regarding it.

I do have a slight issue with the break-up, especially the way that Blizzek leaves Nera. Talk about wham, bam, thank you ma’am!

That aside, the spicy scenes are very spicy, but there is proper plot and a genuine connection between the characters. I love that the heroine on book one cameos – though I must point out that you don’t need to read book one first as Healing the Orc’s Heart stands on its own. I do think it reads better if you already understand the Trollkin world, though.

Talking of, the Trollkin Lovers series is expansive, so be warned that if you fall in love with it, as I have, then you’ve got a lot of books to read! I don’t have a problem with this. *g*
